Let’s Be Social About 2 Way Radios

Sunday, March 31st, 2013

Hi Friends,

And so…what do I believe the future of TWITTER AND FACEBOOK will be when it comes to commerce and  business? Will the impact increase or decrease? Will it completely change the way we do business? Or is it a “flash in the pan?”

The greatest lesson of early childhood development is the notion of separation. The lesson of being an individual, apart from our mother or any other individual.

We learn this lesson when we become mobile. When we first learn to crawl or toddle or walk we immediate experience our moving away from that person, place or thing behind us.  We can not be in two places at once and neither can anyone else.

Technology begins for the purpose of serving itself before it serves a practical purpose. There was no practical use for the airplane until after it  was invented, tested and produced in greater than single digit numbers.

Technology begins as a curiosity or an exploration rather than a solution. My Space, Facebook, Twitter and other social media began as answers to questions that had not been asked.

Television is a one way communication device. As a viewer television talks to me I do not talk to television.

This is a restatement of our early childhood lesson; the lesson of separation. We can not be in two places at once. Or can we?

Technology has produce a media that allows us to participate in distance conversations, discussion and even visual events and meetings. It allows us to stop and start our participation at will. It allows us to discriminate our presence in near and far places simultaneously.

This technology is ideal for commerce. It is immediate and it allows shoppers to constantly give feedback to sellers and providers on what is important, who it is important to, when it is important, where it is important and why it is important.

People want to do business with people. Most often people do not do business with people but instead do business with Walmart or Home Depot or Shell Oil or some other big company.

Social media allows people to interact with other people and be on the scene of every event and to be heard as well. I do not know if Facebook or Twitter or some other specific website is the ‘chosen one’ but I do know that social media is not a flash in the pan. Technology can be added to, but never undone. Another early childhood lesson is we can not un-know a person, place or thing.

Business Cards for 2 Way Radios

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

Hi Friends,

2 Way Radio Express is an internet business. We do not sell anything on the internet but we use the internet for marketing. We meet new people everyday that learn about us and 2 way radios online.

Our offices are located in a retail shopping/office park but we do not have walk in traffic. In the nearly 10 years we have been selling 2 way radio equipment we have been face to face with just a handful of customers.

This doesn’t mean we do not know our customers; quite the contrary. We have been doing business with some of our customers every month for the whole time we have been in business. Actually we have become long distance friends with most of our customers. They buy 2 way radios from us but we share more than just commerce.

More recently we have introduced FleetTel. FleetTel is a brand new product and we have been demonstrating it to local prospects. We felt like it made sense to demonstrate FleetTel locally before shipping it all over the country.

We do not have business cards. We never needed businesses cards. We never saw anyone in person so “why have business cards?”

Presto-chango now we are traveling around town with a FleetTel under our arm. The first thing most business people do is exchange business cards… but not if you work at Radio Express.

It seems that we have spent so much time explaining why we do not have business cards that maybe should get business cards.

I walk by a Kinko’s on my way to work everyday. I might just drop in and order a few hundred cards tomorrow morning.

In the meantime let us help you find the best 2 way radio equipment for your needs and budget. You already know us. You don’t need to wait till we get business cards. Give us a call today at 239-601-1969

Comcast Is No 2 Way Radio

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Hi Friends,

We moved over a week ago but our telephones and internet did not move with us. We are an internet business. Nearly all of our customers come from the internet. We communicate with our customers by phone, fax and email. None of these conveyances have been available for more than a week.

I should restate that…our phones, internet and fax have been available on a very limited basis.

We called Comcast to try and get someone over right here away but no one was available to come over right away. Everyday for the past week when I see a Comcast truck on the road or at Wendy’s or McDonald’s I think “I bet that guy is available.”

Do you remember the old Jimmy Buffett song “If The Phone Doesn’t Ring It’s Me”? In our case if the phone doesn’t ring it is Comcast.

In frustration I called AT&T on my cell phone. AT&T is our cell phone provider. The woman that answered said I could use my cell phone as hot spot to provide internet connectivity. Our 800 number was already call forwarded to my cell. So for more than a week my iPhone has been the communications hub for 2 Way Radio Express.

I usually don’t use my cell phone a tremendous amount and I can get by recharging my phone every couple of days. But since my cell phone is doing all this extra stuff it needs nearly constant charging.

If you use 2 way radios you know that 2 way radios don’t have any of these problems. If you need more 2 way radios just call us. We will send new radios to you right away. We pretty much ship your new radios the same day you place the order. No waiting for connection or for a repair man to come out.

Let us help you find the best 2 way radios for you needs and budget. Call us at 239-601-1969. The number may be directed to my cell phone but it still works.

We Are Moving

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

Hi Friends,

2 Way Radio Express has  been in the same office building for 4 years. It is a great spot. We are surrounded by doctors and dentists and Alexanders’s (a terrific European bistro restaurant). There is a beautiful court yard with lots of flowering plants and a vine covered gazebo.

Best of all Joy Ann and I live just on the other side of the hedge that divides our condo property from the office parking lot. My commute is only 2 minutes. I never have to worry about traffic, only cobwebs as I pass through the hedge.

A couple of days ago, Chris, the son of our landlord called. He first reminded me that 2 Way Radio Express is on a month to month lease. Then he informed me that a big deal law firm is coming to town and leasing our whole building. Bye-bye vine covered gazebo.

Our new location is just a couple of blocks away. No more cutting through the hedge. I don’t have to dodge the cobwebs any more. My new commute is 12 minutes on foot or about 5 minutes by bike.

As much as I like the new VW Beetle, particularly the diesel model in denim blue with six speed transmission and baby moon hubcaps, it would be hard to justify a car for such a short drive to work.

I will still come home and prepare lunch for Joy Ann and me everyday but I’ll probably ride my bicycle most days. I might buy a crock pot. I can see myself putting a pot roast or a chicken casserole in the crock pot in the morning for a-walk-through-the-door-and-it’s-ready-lunch.

Did I mention that the new office is in a plaza with a Greek Restaurant that touts its Mediterranean Soul Food and  a Mexican restaurant named Flaco’s. Forget the bicycle I am going to need to walk to work to make up for my future indulgences at these rest stops.

Our move is only going to take a couple of hours. Give us call and let us help you find the best 2 way radios for your needs and budget. We will appreciate the break from unpacking.

FleetTel the World’s Greatest Mobile Radio

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Hi Friends,

Radios that you hold in your hand (think walkie talkie) are called portable radios. Radios that are mounted in a vehicle (think CB radios) are called mobile radios. Each of these types of radios have specific uses.

Hand held radios have only have a mile or two range but are easy to carry around. Mobile radios have greater range and are usually mounted in a vehicle.

FleetTel is the world’s greatest mobile radio. FleetTel is robust, exceptionally durable, loud enough operate in a noisy truck or taxi or van and best of all can talk across town or across the country.

FleetTel is the only mobile radio that offers coast to coast coverage. FleetTel is a great alternative to cell phones. Using a cell phone in a moving vehicle is at the very least awkward, probably dangerous and maybe illegal.

FleetTel is easy to use. It is on all the time. Great sound quality.

You can dispatch your FleetTel equipped drivers through a desktop computer or your smart phone.

FleetTel sells for $499 plus a monthly connection fee.

If you have drivers you’ll love FleetTel. Give us a call at 239-601-1969 to learn more.

Playing Guitar and 2 Way Radios

Monday, March 4th, 2013

Hi Friends,

I play guitar. I have played guitar for more than 40 years. Thinking back 40 years I would have suspected that I could play better by now but I have enjoyed it regardless. There is a great deal of comfort that comes with playing just for the sake of playing. No accomplishment needed.

The internet has made it much easier to learn songs today. Today you simple type in “chords and lyric…” and the song title and you can find the song you want to learn. Years ago you had to buy the record and play it over and over again and still had to guess what the chords, lyrics and notes to the melody might be.

There are some BeeGee’s and Earth, Wind and Fire and Tommy James records that I nearly wore out and still didn’t get all the notes right.

It takes more than just practice and knowing the chords and notes to play most of the great songs.

I see advertisements touting “Play like Stevie Ray”, “How to Play Melissa by the Allman Brothers”, “Funky Jimi Hendrix Rhythm Tricks” and so on. After 40 years I can tell you that a couple of guitar lessons are not going to have you playing like Stevie Ray or even Esteban (also known as the man in the black cowboy hat and sunglasses).

We see a similar thing in the 2 way radio business. We see advertisements for radios that have no ability to perform to the level of the advertising claim. I have often wondered how a company can advertise 30 mile range when the radio won’t broadcast to the front of the store it is being sold in.

In order for a 2 way radio to provide the promise of increased safety, efficiency and productivity it has to be reliable, easy to use and affordable. There are no short cut.

We want to help you find the best 2 way radios for your application and budget. Give us a call. Doing  business with 2 Way Radio Express is easy.

Best Wishes,
