Groceries and 2 Way Radios

Hi Friends,

Most people think grocery shopping is a chore. I love grocery shopping. I like the produce section, can goods, spices and cooking supplies, meats, seafood, chip and bread aisle, I really like everything about a grocery store. Maybe in another life I would have been a grocer.

One of my first memories going to the corner store across from my grandmother’s house in Bangor, Maine. The Needham family owned the store and lived upstairs. There was a bell over the front door that let them know when someone came in. I can still remember the aroma of fresh onions, celery, potatoes and apples that greeted everyone that entered that store. It had a soft pine floor. I’m sure what I remembered as fresh aromas were old scents being given up by a porous floor because in  winter when produce was less available the store smelled the same.

Needham’s store had a counter that separated customers from the Needhams and most of the products for sale. Out front customers could pick up can goods and staples. Behind the counter was all the action…but you had to ask.

There were no packaged meats. If you wanted a pound of ground beef or a half dozen pork chops you had to ask a Needham. You had to ask a Needham if you wanted flour or cabbage or bananas.

The Needhams were quick to point out the current state of their inventory and to perhaps offer a deal. Mr. Needham might say, “The apples have a little age on them. You can have the rest of the bushel for a buck and a half. They’ll make good pies or apple sauce.”

The Needhams also took personal responsibility in announcing the presents of eggplant, mushrooms, oysters or any other seasonal or special addition to the inventory.

Looking back I didn’t realize at the time but the Needhams were really providing “concierge” market services.

If I were comparing our little family business, 2 Way Radio Express, to the grocery business I think we are more like Needham’s corner store than Publix, Kroger or Price Chopper.

We take personal responsibility in keeping our customers informed of the products and services we offer. We enjoy the relationships we have with our customers and the opportunity of helping them make the best buying choices.

Let us help you find the 2 way radio equipment for your application and budget. Doing business with 2 Way Radio Express is easy. Give us a call at 239-601-1969.
