Laura, Nick and 2 Way Radios

November 23rd, 2012

Hi Friends,

My niece Laura is getting married. She is marrying Nick. Nick is from England and Laura works for Land Rover in England. They both have big jobs. The world is their oyster.

They chose Naples as the place to get married. Laura’s mom (my sister Marie) and dad (Matt) live here in Naples part of the year. Laura’s grandfather (my dad) also lives here in Naples. Of course my lovely Joy Ann and Jay and Grayson and Jay’s little girls and Grayson’s Donna all live here in Naples too. This place is swarming with relatives.

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving at Matt and Marie’s. All of Laura’s family and all of Nick’s family that had made the trip from England were together. There were over thirty people. Laura’s Uncle Joey and Aunt Janie were in town from Louisville. Enzo and Elenore were here from Pennsylvania. Enzo is my cousin but I have no idea what that makes him to Laura…a second cousin maybe? Is there such a thing as a second Uncle?

My sister Marie went to nursing school a lifetime ago and met her best friend Betty. I think they were roommates. At the same time Marie’s Matt was going to medical school and his roommate was Dick. Twists and turns of fate and they were all on a date together. I can’t remember who fixed who up with the other and it doesn’t make much difference now but Marie married Matt and Betty married Dick and they have all been best friends since then. What are the odds of all that happening?

Marie and Betty are still best friends. Matt and Dick are still best friends. It boggles the mind to think of all the good times and bad these friends have gone through. They have always lived in the same neighborhood. When one couple moved the other couple followed. There must be a thousand things that happened over the years to drive them apart. Everyone stayed married and everyone stayed best friends. And… what are the odds of all that happening?

Dick and Betty are in town for the wedding. They were at Marie’s for Thanksgiving. Serving 30 people a six course meal is no simple feat. As Marie swooped around the house making introductions and sure everyone was enjoying themselves Betty was in charge of the kitchen. They had been practicing for this since the first day they met at nursing school. Best friends are forever practicing how they can help and make a difference.

When I think of all the stuff I have to be thankful for, all the things I feel blessed to have, all the great memories and all the great plans… I can’t think of anything I am more thankful to see than my sister and her husband and their best friends.  People say, “in the end it is your family and friends that are most important.” My sister, and my brother in law Matt and his best friend Dick and my sister’s best friend Betty live it. They are inspirational.

2 Way Radios in the Hands of Cute Korean Girls

November 19th, 2012

Hi Friends,

One of the most important things to consider when purchasing 2 way radios is durability.  Two way radios improve safety, efficiency and productivity but only when they are reliable, easy to use and affordable.

Reliability is the most important of these requirements. Reliability means that when you push the talk button you are certain your message is going to be heard. Reliability means that all day every day you can depend on your two way radios to perform to your expectations.

Too often we hear about two way radios that have insufficient battery power to last through out a full shift or radios that do not have enough power to talk to all parts of the facility or radios that fall apart the first time they are dropped.

Enter a couple of cute Korean girls demonstrating the new TecNet TP-8000 waterproof radios. The TecNet TP-8000 is a fully submersible 2 way radio that is literally bullet proof. The TecNet TP-8000 is built by Unimo. Unimo is Korea’s foremost radio manufacturer. The Korean’s are legendary for their electronics.

Check out the video, Too/Two Cute Korean Girls demonstrating the durability and range of the TecNet TP-8000. This is another in the series of videos showing good looking women that don’t speak english testing the TecNet TP-8000. And yes, they demonstrate the TecNet TP-8000 being shot at with a high powered rife. (This allows the video to be classified in the ‘Girls with Guns’ category.)

The TecNet TP-8000 can be programmed to work seamlessly with your existing radios. The TecNet TP-8000 normally sells for $329. But for a limited time we are offering these terrific radios for only $299 including UPS shipping. We are also offer the optional blue tooth model for $399. The TecNet TP-8000 comes with a full 4 year warranty. Even the battery is guaranteed for 4 years.

Introducing The Pizzas and 2 Way Radios

November 15th, 2012

Hi Friends,

My friends Mike Cook, Mike Carpenter, my son Grayson and I have a musical combo. We get together on Thursday nights and learn new and old songs. Typically we also play at Mulligan’s Sports Bar’s Open Mic once a month.

We try not to repeat songs at the open mic. Songs we performed last month or any prior month are off limits. This helps us focus on learning new material. It also helps us not re-live disastrous performances of the past – this is known as not making the same mistake twice. In golf this is coincidentally enough called a Mulligan or do-over. There aren’t any do-overs when you are performing live music.

We do not write or play original tunes. We simply cover other peoples songs. Our guidelines are to play uptempo songs and not do more than one tune from any single performer or act. We only do one Jimmy Buffet song, one Ray Charles song, one John Mellencamp song and so on. Last night we performed one song each from Eric Clapton, Maroon 5 and Bob Seeger.

Mulligan’s is packed to overflow on open mic nights. The guy that owns Mulligan’s offers half priced pizza on ‘open mic night’ to boost business even more. The place is swarming with young and old and the smell of fresh pizza pies.

Our group doesn’t have a name. We have kicked around a couple of ideas but nothing has stuck. We would like to have a name that is fun and something everyone likes but I’m not going to play in a band called pizza or The Pizzas or really any name referring to food or articles of clothing.

I really can’t fully describe how much fun it is for us to perform in front of a packed house. Beer, sodas and pizzas. Families having a great time. I get to play with my son and our friends. Life couldn’t be any better.

Let us help you find the best 2 way radio equipment for your business, school or government agency. Two way radios improve safety, efficiency and productivity. Our  two way radios easy use, reliable and affordable. Doing business with 2 Way Radio Express is easy.

2 Way Radios and Plantronic Headsets

November 14th, 2012

Hi Friends,

We are on the telephone a substantial part of each day. We have found that using a telephone headset is a great convenience. Using a headset lets us use our hands to write, use a computer keypad or root through stuff on our desks while talking on the phone. We have been using the Plantronics brand telephone headsets for years.

I am not an expert but Plantronics seems to be the most popular brand of headsets. I can see why. Our headsets cost very little and we have been using them for years with no problems.

Our headsets are very simple. The headset has a wire that plugs into the side of the phone and has a mini boom and earpiece that fits on our heads. Headsets come in several different configurations but the ones we use are very simple with just a wire connecting them to the phone and a loop that goes over our heads and supports the microphone and earpiece. Here’s a picture of Grayson and me at the office wearing our  headsets Click Here to see.

Here’s what’s cool….independent studies have shown that for folks that are on the phone 10% or more of their work day have a 25% increase in productivity just by wearing a headset.

A couple of days ago I got a phone call from Allen at The Headset Team. Allen introduces himself and suggests that maybe we can work together. So we are exploring the possibility of adding Plantronics Headsets to our inventory. Allen knows more about headset that I thought there was to know. We sell radios because they increase efficiency and productivity. Maybe we’ll sell headsets for the same reasons.

Are you using headsets at your school or business. Give me a call and share your experience. I’d like to know if you are using Plantronics or some other brand and if you are pleased with the results. If you like I can even send you a free copy of the report that shows a 25% productivity increase from using headsets.

Don’t forget we want to help you find the best 2 way radios for your application. Two way radios increase safety, efficiency and productivity. Doing business with 2 Way Radio Express is easy.

Spaghetti for Breakfast and 2 Way Radios

November 9th, 2012

Hi Friends,
The ever health conscious Joy Ann and I enjoy a hearty breakfast every morning. Joy Ann likes to point out “let food be your medicine and your medicine be food.” Joy Ann helps me understand good nutrition by reminding me that we should eat breakfast like a  king, lunch like a prince and supper like a pauper.

I go along with this because somewhere in my brain the agreement lamp is lit. However I am really more like an anaconda than a health food guy. Before I met the regimented Joy Ann I seldom ate before supper. No breakfast, no lunch, no snacks. Beer isn’t a snack… is it? Supper was consumed late in the evening. It was rich in sauces and high in fat and protein (think rib eye steak, baked potato with sour cream and salad with a cheesy dressing). I do some of my best sleeping with a full tummy.

Not anymore. Pursuant to my good health Joy Ann has strict rules regarding eating after 7 PM. Today our typical supper is a cup of soup and some crackers (non wheat crackers, of course).  Cookies are no longer allowed at our home. In all fairness I deserve the cookie ban. I fell hard for Fresh Market’s half priced gourmet cookie sale. Before you could say ‘oatmeal raisin’ I was caught in their web.

The bright spot of my culinary day is lunch. Since my office is just next door to our home I prepare lunch for the two of us everyday. Long grain brown rice, organic sweet potatoes, boneless skinless tasteless chicken breast and assorted fresh vegetables are healthy choices for Joy Ann and still provide a platform for my favorite condiments of butter, soy and teriyaki sauce and a variety of cheeses. Cheese is a condiment isn’t it?

We still eat spaghetti and meatballs but now it is low glycemic index Dreamfield Pasta and organic marinara.

I have never been a fan of eggs or other typical breakfast fare. Through careful planning I have introduced left overs from lunch into my breakfast menu. It is not unusually for Joy Ann to quizzically observe my breakfast choice. She is often heard saying, “You’re having __________ for breakfast?” You can fill in the blank with spaghetti, pork chops or any number of other healthy choices.

2 Way Radios and No Campaign Bitterness

November 7th, 2012

Hi Friends,

The politically aware Joy Ann and I enjoyed following the presidential campaign. We were rooting for Romney. We really believe Mitt has the answers. We believe the country needs to change course.

Our typical evening over the past year has been to watch Fox News Channel Special Report with Bret Baier and then tune in to Bill O’Reilly a little later. In the mornings we kept up on all the political news by watching Fox and Friends.

Last evening we were on pins and needles waiting for election results. Over the past few days there was a great deal of hoo’ ha over Romney gaining in the polls and some were forecasting a landslide for Mitt. Pundits including Dick Morris, Rush Limbaugh and others were detecting a major shift in political thinking towards Romney. All this prognosticating just added to our enthusiasm.

Mitt jumped to an early lead but it didn’t mean much because he was expected to win Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and other states that were the first to report. Florida is a  mother lode of electoral votes but as best I can tell they are still counting votes from the Bush vs Kerry contest.

I don’t know why Florida has not been able to develop vote counting skills. It is similar in effect to BMW’s total lack of ability to design a headliner that resists falling on the occupants of their most expensive models .

We went to bed not knowing the outcome but still fairly certain that Mitt would prevail.

We got up early to learn Obama won re-election. I have to admit I immediately felt disappointment and even bitterness. It is hard for me to accept the outcome. I felt physical pain. I felt physically like I was gagging. It was hard to breathe.

My discomfort was now constant. I really don’t want bitterness to dominate my thinking. All of us have to recognize the value and virtue of majority rule and our mutual value.

As I was preparing breakfast the ever observant Joy Ann pointed out my tee shirt was on backwards. After adjusting my wardrobe my discomfort subsided and I feel much better. I am still disappointed but I have to say the gagging and difficulty breathing symptoms of bitterness are gone.

2 Way Radios and Buttered Pecans

November 6th, 2012

Hi Friends,

I grew up in Trussville, Alabama. Today it is a city of over 25,000 but when I lived in Trussville it was just a little village. Back then there was a sign at the edge of town that read, “Home of 2107 Happy People and 1 Grouch.” No city would put up such a sign today for fear of offending the grouch.

Most of the houses in Trussville were built by WPA workers in the 1930’s. When they built the houses they left as many trees as possible.  I lived there in the 1950’s and there were pecan trees everywhere. Pecans have a thick husk that protects the pecan. As the pecan ripens the husk splits open and reveals the pecan in its thin shell. Even a child can get to the pecan meat by crushing two nuts together.

The trick with pecans is to make sure you have removed the bitter. The bitter is the soft part of the shell that tastes incredibly bitter.

Euell Gibbons, the natural food advocate and spokesperson for Grape Nuts, would have loved wandering around Trussville living off the pecans that were so abundant.

It never occurred to me or my boyhood friend Lynwood that pecans could be enjoyed any other way than au’ natural. Then one Christmas my Aunt Diana sent a tin of toasted pecans.

My Aunt Diana and Uncle Chet had a pecan tree in their yard. Uncle Chet found a pecan nut cracker at the hardware store and the two of them started collecting pecans in the fall. They prepared the pecans on a cookie sheet with salt and butter. The pecans were toasted in the oven and then packaged in a tin and given to us for Christmas. Man oh man those pecans were good. Each one was a treasure. Lynwood, being my best friend, was entitled to a taste of the precious nuts. He took to them like a cat takes to tuna and declared it was the best thing he ever tasted.

People don’t make there own Christmas gifts much anymore but when they did it created some powerful memories.

2 Way Radios vs. Cell Phones

November 1st, 2012

Hi Friends,

Two way radios improve safety, efficiency and productivity at schools, factories and businesses. Many of these facilities are currently using cell phones to communicate but cell phones may not be the easiest or most economical. Here is a little comparison to see if 2 way radios are right for you.

1. Two way radios are easier to use. Push a button and start talking.

2. You can immediately reach everyone with two way radios. Cell phones require a separate number to call each person individually. Having to call everyone individually is slow and tedious and completely inappropriate in an emergency.

3. Compared to a 2 way radio cell phones are fragile. Two way radios are durable and built to withstand the rigors of the workplace.

4. The right two way radios will provide better reception in hard to reach areas of your property. Cell phones are prone to dead spots or areas of poor reception and transmission. Have you ever noticed how people have to go outside the mall or grocery store to make or receive a call on their cell phone?

5. Two way radios are loud. Two way radios are great for use in high noise areas, dusty, dirty or wet environments, when hands free operation is necessary, when security is paramount or covert communications are required.

6. Our two way radios come with a full four year warranty. Even the battery is guaranteed for 4 years. Cell phones usually have warrantees of one year or less.

7. After several recent natural disasters, many people have learned that two way radios continue to work in an emergency when cell phones and even land lines become useless.

8. Straight Talk lets 2 way radios and cell phones talk to each other.

Two way radios are easy to use, are loaded with options, are effective in all locations and have no monthly fee or service contract. Most 2 way radios pay for themselves in 6 weeks or less while cell phone charges continue forever.

2 Way Radio on Saturday Morning

October 30th, 2012

Hi Friends,

Saturday is a slow day for me. My industrious Joy Ann goes to work on Saturday mornings. The choral has practice and there are always a lot of details that she oversees. I usually spend Saturday morning on an extended bicycle ride or beach walk.

We don’t keep regular office hours on Saturday and Sunday. Modern technology lets me receive all of our office on my cell phone. We answer our phone from 8 in the morning until 8 at night 7 days a week. We are very available. Even on my bike or the beach I am on duty.

I split the calls with Grayson. Somedays he takes the after hour calls and some days it is me. When either of us calls the other to announce we are putting the phone on call forwarding we say, “You’ve got the con.” “You’ve got the con” is from Star Trek.

When you command a large ship you have to fool the ship into going where you want it to go. Waves, currents, the wind and the ship itself are all influencing the path of the ship. A good captain has to trick or fool or better yet “con” the ship into performing correctly. I don’t know if this is why the term “con” is used or if it is short for control. I guess either way, that is what con means; to control.

A few months ago I was riding my bicycle when my cell phone rang. I have a different ring tone for Joy Ann, my children, the office and so on. I was coming up on an intersection and couldn’t stop but I knew it was the office calling. I retrieved the phone from my pocket and unfortunately it slipped from my hand and fell to the street. It took the fall pretty well. I really thought it was okay until the car that was behind drove over it. The sound of a car tire rolling over a $500 iphone is unmistakeable.

If it had been a 2 way radio it probably would have survived. Two way radios are exceptionally durable. One of our featured radios is the TecNet TP-8000. If you visit this link CLICK HERE and click “Click here to watch a video” you will see a pretty Swedish girl demonstrating all the perils that a 2 way radio can survive.
