Quickly 4 Things

April 2nd, 2012

Hi Friends,
Blue tooth is now available for 2 way radios. Blue tooth technology allows 2 way radio users to wear earpieces or speaker mics that are wireless. No wire between the radio and the speaker mic or earpiece. This device is compatible with thousands of readily available blue tooth headsets and earpieces. Not including the radio or earpiece the bluetooth option is about $150 for most radios.

Blue tooth radio accessories are great for hospitality applications like restaurants, bars, casinos and hotels. Jimmy is our resident hospitality expert. Jimmy was a consultant to the hospitality industry before joining 2 Way Radio Express. Let Jimmy help you find the best 2 way radios and accessories for your business.

Do you need more radio equipment that you can currently budget? You may be interested in our leasing program. Leasing lets you pay for your 2 way radio equipment over 12, 24 or 36 months (or we can customize a plan for you). At the end of the lease you own the equipment. We have a short form lease application or you can call and we will take your information over the phone. Leases are usually approved the same day they are submitted.

It’s Easy

March 16th, 2012

Hi Friend,

Hand held 2 way radios let you talk immediately with everyone or just one person in your facility. Two way radios save steps and help you become more efficient and productive.

In the early days of two way radios there were only a few models from one or two manufacturers. Today there are many manufacturers and models available. Today’s  models vary greatly in size, weight and features.

If you are toting a radio around on your hip all day size and weight are important factors. In order to better describe the relative size and weight of a specific 2 way radio we have developed the “Ease of Carry” index.

The Ease of Carry (EOC) is the product of multiplying the height times the width times the depth times the weight in ounces of a radio. The final step is to find the square root of  this number. (note: My fifth grade teacher at St. Barnabas in Birmingham, Alabama taught how to calculate square roots the week I had my tonsils removed. I am therefore totally reliant on a $5 calculator for this final step.)

For example let’s find the EOC for our poplar Tekk X100. The Tekk X100 is 3.8 inches tall by 1.95 inches wide by 1 inch deep. The Tekk X100 weighs just 6 ounces. Our calculation is then 3.8 X 1.95 X 1 = 7.4 X the weight of 6 ounces = 44.46 (I can’t find the square root symbol on my computer but this is the spot where we apply the square root calculation to = 6.6678332. We round this number off to 7. Seven is the EOC value for the Tekk X100.

Using similar calculation we can determine the EOC for any radio. If you visit our website you will find the EOC for every hand held radio we sell. You can find this number by visiting the 2 way radio page and then clicking the link under the description. Once you are at the page for a specific radio you’ll find the EOC at the bottom of the specifications area. We can mix and match radios and they will still work together. Everyone at your facility does not have to use the same model radio but can choose a radio with the best EOC for them.

Military Specifications

March 1st, 2012

Hi Friends,

One of the most important differences between consumer grade 2 way radios and commercial grade 2 way radios is durability. Durability is the radio’s ability to withstand normal wear as well as abuse.

The Defense Logistics Agency is the US Department of Defense’s largest combat support agency. The Defense Logistics Agency provides guidelines and criteria for supplies and materials that are used by all branches of the US Military. These guidelines and criteria as they apply to commercial grade 2 way radios are referred to as “Mil Spec Radios.” The guidelines call for radios to be able to withstand shock, vibration, humidity, temperature extremes and a host of other criteria. Passing “Mil Spec” testing is an indication of a superior product and is a good indicator of a radios durability.

Commercial grade radios meet or exceed Military Specifications. Consumer grade radios do not meet these standards and are less able to withstand the rigors of daily use.

The additional cost for commercial grade radios is returned many times over in longer life and better performance.

Let us help you find the best radios for your application. Doing business with us is easy.

We have a new 2 Way Radio Express Facebook page. Click her to visit us on Facebook. Post a picture of yourself or others at your school or business using 2 way radios.

Battery Chemistry

February 17th, 2012

Most 2 way radios use either alkaline, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride or lithium ion batteries. Each of these battery chemistries has advantages and disadvantages.

Alkaline batteries are for temporary use and are not re-chargeable but have a long shelf life. These batteries can sit on a shelf waiting to be used for up to 10 years. However the disposable nature of these batteries make them too expensive for daily use.

Nickel Cadmium batteries are the least costly but develop memory burn and lose their effectiveness if they are re-charged without first being totally discharged.

Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are the least costly and work great in severe cold but weight more than Lithium Ion batteries.

Lithium Ion batteries cost the most but have no memory burn issues and weight the lease for the amount of energy they contain.

Each of these batteries need to be matched with a charger than is made specifically for the chemistry being re-charged. Don’t be putting a nickel cadmium battery in a lithium ion charger unless you’re looking for trouble.

We sell aftermarket batteries as well as original manufacturer batteries for nearly every radio. If you need help with 2 way radio batteries give us a call. Doing business with us is easy.

Introducing the Tekk Gang Charger

February 2nd, 2012

Hi Friends,

Most radio manufacturers offer multiple unit battery chargers as an option. These charging stations are popularly referred to as “gang chargers.” Gang chargers let you charge up to 6 radios at the same time. Gang chargers are a great way of keeping track of radios by charging them at a central location. Additionally there is only one wall plug needed.

Selling for nearly $500 I always thought gang chargers were overpriced.

We are a Tekk 2 way radio dealer. Tekk makes superior radios that are lightweight, compact, easy to use and come with a full 4 year warranty. Even the batteries are guaranteed for 4 years.

We offer the Tekk X100 for $199 each. The Tekk X100 is 2 watt radio and is nearly waterproof.

We also sell the Tekk X1000. The Tekk sells for $249. The Tekk X1000 is a 4 watt radio and is equally water resistant.

Tekk radios usually come with individual chargers. For a limited time you can substitute a gang charger for individual charger when you buy 6 or more Tekk radios.

We can match the frequencies on your current radios to work seamlessly with a Tekk radio. Would you like to try a pair of Tekk’s? Give me a call. Doing business with us is easy.

This email went out to all the locations of a property management company:

I just wanted to share with you that Tony found a great company for two way radios. We were (and have) had problems here with the Home Depot /Radio Shack radios that cost a lot but do not work well, especially on large properties. Tony did some research and found a company in Florida that shipped radios to him with a 4 year guarantee. Tony has tested the radios and they are great! Bottom line, please call Tony before you purchase radios for any of our properties.

People Do Business with People

January 6th, 2012

People do business with people. Or at least they want to do business with people. When you buy something at most retail stores (Walmart, Macy’s, Office Depot, etc.) you are really doing business with the store not a person. Some internet businesses have added electronic shopping carts. Some businesses like Walmart have “self-check out” lanes. These businesses are encouraging you to not do business with people but instead to only do business with a machine.

Our business, Two Way Radio Express, wants people to do business with people. That’s why a person (not a machine) answers the phone. That’s why the “2 Way Radio Express Promise to You” includes:

A single point of contact – your own account manager that knows you and your company and can help you find the best equipment for your application.

Doing business with us is not just easy – it’s people doing business with people. Give us a call.

Another Reason

December 20th, 2011

Hi Friend,

We market and advertise 2 Way Radio Express on the internet so we never know who is on the other end of the phone when we answer.

A few weeks ago a fellow from New York City was calling. This fellow is in the subway construction business (the conveyance not the sandwich).

He supervises a crew that pumps concrete from a truck at street level down a shaft into the subway tunnel. His crew stretches about a mile in either direction from the shaft. He told me his concrete truck operator needed to be able to talk to the crew in the tunnel. He told me the shaft was nearly 100 feet deep. The people in the tunnel needed to be able to tell the truck operator to turn on or off the flow of concrete. Oh, I almost forgot, he called on Tuesday and needed the equipment by Friday.

Jay and Grayson and I talked about how we could best and most economically solve the problem. We also called several people we know in the 2 way radio industry for their suggestions.

The final solution: ICOM Lite radios  programmed through a low wattage repeater located at the center point of the shaft.

On Monday our customer called to say in his heavy New York accent, “It worked like a charm. You guys are better sliced bread!”

If you need help in solving your 2 way radio problems give us a call. Doing business with us is easy.
