It is the beginning of hurricane season here in Florida. Tornados are ripping through the midwest. Most every part of the country experiences storms during this time of year. It is storm season.
Two way radios are a great way to increase safety and efficiency by providing seamless communications even during the most severe weather.
Electrical service may be interrupted during storms but you can still depend on reliable and affordable 2 way radios with a little planning.
Here are 3 things that can help you be prepared;
1. Have spare batteries ready on standby. You can rotate spare batteries by using one battery while re-charging a second battery in the radio charger.
2. If the computers in your office are equipped with Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS) you can use these devices to re-charge your batteries. Simply plug your radio charger into the back of the UPS. You can expect 3 or 4 days supply using the UPS.
3. Some radios will allow the use of a special case that accommodates AA batteries. Keep in mind the radio’s broadcast power and range may be reduced by half when you are using AA batteries rather than the regular battery pack. However AA alkaline batteries have a long shelf life (several years).
There are several small generators and battery pack re-chargers that can be used to keep your radios operating for extended periods.
The most important thing is to have a plan and communicate that plan to everyone on your staff that uses 2 way radios.
